After natural disasters, relief agencies often rely on the help of volunteers. However, most agencies require that volunteers undergo specific training before they are deployed. If you're interested in volunteering, contact the American Red Cross, Salvation Army or other relief agency prior to a storm to help ensure that you're registered and trained to volunteer after a disaster.

If you need to evacuate due to a storm, there may be a Red Cross shelter in your area. Everyone is welcome at a Red Cross shelter and there is no reservation required.
